ELIGIBILITY WORKER Position #00208 - Salary $29,972
Duties and Responsibilities: Applicant must possess ability to comprehend and apply policies and regulations, manage workload, interview applicants, ensure completeness and accuracy of data, and utilize a computer and computer software. Responsibilities are related to the determination and re-determination of eligibility of individuals and families for public assistance programs including food stamps, medical assistance, and other social services’ benefit programs. Work is performed within established policies and guidelines outlined by the State and Federal government. The employee interviews persons for assistance, explains benefit programs, obtains and verifies required information, and makes benefit determination in accordance with program policy. Assistance is computed by manual and automated methods. Employee manages detailed files and records on assigned cases; detects fraud and makes appropriate referrals to investigator. Maintains professional ethics related to confidentiality and exercises sound judgment, discretion, tact and resourcefulness in solving problems and drawing logical conclusions; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with applicants and recipients, other public and private agencies, associates and the public in a positive and tactful manner.
Education and Experience Required: Minimum of a high school diploma supplemented with additional education and benefit program experience or combination of education and financial background or related human services background. Proficient in use of various computer software programs and data entry.
Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable background checks are required. Bi-lingual skills helpful. Some overnight travel may be required.
