Message from Jean:
I had been working in the private business sector for about 14 years when I decided to run for election as Commissioner of the Revenue for Augusta County. At that time I thought that my background in Finance and Accounting would be an asset to the overall functioning of the office. Since serving as Commissioner of the Revenue, I feel even more strongly about that fact. The specialized training that I received while working in the Finance Departments of major corporations has been very beneficial when the need arises to analyze company financial statements. And my knowledge of Audit procedures and processes helps me understand inter working relationships among different functions in a business.
I have always enjoyed working in Accounting and Finance and loved the challenge involved in doing Tax Work for Individuals Taxpayers and Small Businesses. Being Commissioner of the Revenue has provided me an opportunity to fulfill my personal employment objective by working in a challenging position where my background and training come together for the benefit of all the taxpayers who live or work within Augusta County.
The Office of Commissioner of the Revenue is an elected position. Our function is to fulfill the taxing requirements as enacted by the Code of Virginia and the Ordinances of Augusta County. But we realize that we have to be more than that. We have to be an intermediary for the taxpayer. Someone that can assist you when the Code is difficult to understand. If you have any problems that my office can help resolve, please give us a call at (540) 245-5640, or come by the office in the Government Center in Verona.
