Deputy James Snyder was awarded the Supervisor's Commendation Ribbon for his actions involving the successful arrest of a person armed with a handgun in February of 2009. Snyder's actions led to the swift and safe arrest of an armed mentally disturbed individual.

Retired Deputy Sheriff Thomas McComas was honored with a Supervisor's Commendation Ribbon. McComas retired in 2008 after a 10 year career with the Sheriff's Office and a total of 30 years service as a Virginia Law Enforcement Officer.

Sergeant Tony Shifflett was honored with a Supervisor's Commendation ribbon for his apprehension of a Burglary suspect who was arrested just prior to commiting a commercial burglary on Greenville Avenue in December of 2008.

Investigator Paul McCormick was awarded the Sheriff's Commendation Ribbon for his actions involving the sucessful negotiation and arrest of an armed barricade suspect in April of 2008.

The Investigations Division was awarded the Departmental Unit Commendation for the successful investigation of a string of burglary and auto theft cases in 2007-08. Lt. Glenn Hanger accepts the unit award from Sheriff Fisher.

Deputy Donald Smith was honored by the Sheriff's Office as the 2008 Deputy of the Year. Smith's work ethic, dedication, tenacity and professionalism are a great credit to himself and the entire Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Arthur Blackwell was awarded the Supervisor's Commendation Ribbon for his actions involving assistance provided to a suicidal subject in the Falls Hollow area of Augusta County in August of 2008.

Deputy Caleb Spence was awarded the Supervisor's Commendation Ribbon for his actions involving his handling of a suicidal subject in the Verona area of Augusta County in September of 2008.

On afternoon of April 1st, 2008, Augusta County Deputy Sheriff Matthew Carter was responding to an emergency call for service on Eastside Highway in his marked Ford Crown Victoria. Carter was traveling north in the 800 block of Eastside Highway with his lights and siren activated when a Ford F-150 truck, operated by an intoxicated driver, entered Deputy Carter’s lane of travel. Deputy Carter maneuvered his patrol vehicle to avoid a head on collision, but the truck impacted his patrol car on the driver side, totally destroying it. Deputy Carter received minor injuries due to his use of a safety belt.
On November 19, 2008, Deputy Carter was presented the “Saved by the Belt Award” by Sheriff Randall D. Fisher. The saved by the Belt Award recognizes individuals who were involved in a traffic crash and, because they were wearing a safety belt or were in a child safety restraint, their injuries were reduced or their lives were saved.

Deputy Christopher Pultz was awarded the Supervisor's Commendation Ribbon for his actions involving the successful investigation of several complicated criminal cases between April and July of 2008.
