EMS Training

EMT-B Class for Continuing Education Hours

The EMT-B course is a 121 hour, state certification course which involves 111 hours of classroom instruction and an additional 10 hours of combined hospital emergency room observation time, Emergency Operations Center observation time, and ambulance “run” time.

The EMT-B course is currently on a Monday/Wednesday Day/Night schedule and below is the schedule for anyone needing continuing education hours.

Fire Training

 

 

Driver Operator - Aerial

When: Aug. 25th, 26th, 30th, Sept. 2nd, 7th, 9th, 14th, 15th and 21st.
18:30 to 22:00
Where: Augusta County Training Center . 115 Dick Huff Lane, Verona, Virginia

Description: A four module course (part of the driver/operator curriculum) with
detailed instruction on the operation, maintenance and design of Aerial Ladder
Apparatus.
The modules include: Module 6, Type and Construction of Aerial Apparatus; Module
7, Positioning Aerial Apparatus; Module 8, Aerial Apparatus, Strategy and Tactics;
Module 9, Aerial Apparatus Testing.

Prerequisites: Firefighter Level I (new) or Firefighter Level II (old), students must
be EVOC minimum of S-3

Equip. Req: Full turnout gear required.

Registration Minimum/Deadline: A minimum of 10 students must be enrolled in the class or the class will be cancelled. Deadline is 08/13/2010.

Rural Water Supply

When: Sept. 8th, 14th and 18th 2010
Time: Tue and Wed 6pm to 10pm / Sat 0830 to 1700
Where: Augusta County Training Center 115 Dick Huff Ln., Verona, Virginia

Description: A course designed for the rural fire department that depends heavily on tanker shuttles to provide water at the fireground. Course consists of classroom training on equipment needed, apparatus placement on the fireground and the fill site, safety and extensive hands on training conducting tanker shuttles under realistic conditions.
Prerequisites: Apparatus drivers must have completed EVOC level 3 or 4. Junior Firefighter must be Firefighter Level I certified.
Equip. Req: Full turnout gear required. Departments sending students are strongly encouraged to send apparatus, if possible.

Registration Minimum/Deadline: A minimum of 10 students must be enrolled or the class will be cancelled. Maximum enrollment is 24 students. Deadline is 08/31/2010.

Basic Pump Operations

When: Sept. 27th, 29th and Oct. 2nd 2010
Time: Mon and Wed 6pm to 10pm / Sat 0830 to 1700
Where: Augusta County Training Center 115 Dick Huff Ln., Verona, Virginia

Description: A course designed for new operators with emphasis on hands-on operation of pumpers at draft, and from hydrants and relay operations.
Prerequisites: Junior Firefighters or those under 18 years old must be Firefighter Level I certified. No prerequisite if over 18.
Equip. Req: Full turnout gear required. Departments sending students are strongly encouraged to send apparatus, if possible.

Registration Minimum/Deadline: A minimum of 10 students must be enrolled or the class will be cancelled. Maximum enrollment is 24 students. Deadline is 09/11/2010.

Where: Wilson Volunteer Fire Department 892 Mount Torrey Road, Lyndhurst Va. 22952

Description: The course objectives are as follows:
-Describe how Unified Command functions on a multi-jurisdiction multi-agency incident.
-Define the advantages of the Unified Command and the kinds of situations which may call for Unified Command.
-List the major steps involved in the planning process.
-Dissect issues that influence incident complexity and the tools available to analyze
complexity.
-Review the primary guidelines and responsibilities of the command and general staff
positions.
-Describe the purposes and responsibilities of agency representatives or technical specialists,
reporting relationships and how they can be effectively used within the incident
organization.

Prerequisites: NIMS ICS 700, 100, 200 and 300

Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) Class for Structural Fire Fighters

When: Sept 25th and 26th
Time: 08:00 to 17:00
Where: Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport, Hangar 3 Conference Room (upstairs).

Description:
This course is designed for those fire departments that are not tasked with aviation fire protection and/or do not have the specialized ARFF tools/equipment. This 16 hour program provides a combination of classroom, field trip, and group exercises designed to familiarize firefighters with airports, aircraft and aircraft systems, responding to on and off airport emergencies, and other topics.

This course will meet the 16 hour training requirement for Officers.

Prince William County LODD Presentation

When: September 26th 2010
Time: 0800 to 1700
Where: Augusta County Training Center 115 Dick Huff Lane, Verona, Virginia

Description: This class will cover the LODD of Technician Kyle Wilson on 4/16/2007. It will explore circumstances of the incident and lessons learned. In the afternoon we will cover Crew Resource Management.

Registration Information / Classroom Reservation Information

Training Classroom Reservation Form
The following is to provide all Fire-Rescue companies a method for reserving the use of the training classrooms to prevent “double booking” of a classroom.

1. The upstairs classroom will be referred to as Classroom I.
2. The downstairs classroom will be referred to a Classroom II.
3. The upstairs small classrooms will be referred to as break out rooms.
4. A classroom reservation registration must be filled out in full and returned to Captain Weaver at a minimum of one week prior to the class being held. The earlier the request is in the better the probability of getting the reservation. The registration form will then be sent back with approval or disapproval.
5. Classroom registration forms can be found on the Fire-Rescue training website.
