Stray Animals:

To have stray animals taken to the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, residents should call their local Animal Control Departments or drop them off at the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center:  Animal Control Officers does not pick up cats.  Residents will need to deliver them to the shelter.

Available for emergencies ONLY between 7:00 PM and 8:00 AM

Each emergency will be handled on a case by case basis 

Dogs running at large are NOT considered an emergency

Missing Animals:

If you are missing your animal, please contact the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center and use the "Stray Search" link.  Photos are updated as animals are brought into the facility.  Everyone is encouraged to visit the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center to see if your animal has been dropped off.

 

Length of Stay:

Animals that are left after five days, without a collar or ten days with a collar are made available to the public for adoption.

 

Claming your Animal:

When you claim your animal a fine will apply.  Please contact Animal Control at 540-245-5635 for the fee amount.

 

Fees:

When claiming your dog:

 

$50       If running at large without a valid rabies vaccination

$25       If running at large

$10       If no County dog tag

$20       Pick-up fee

$15       Per day impoundment fee

 

These fines and fees are paid at the Augusta County Treasurer's Office located at 18 Government Center Lane Verona, VA 24482. 

 

Summons may also be issued to appear in General District Court with fines ranging up to $250 per violation plus court costs.
