The County of Augusta is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Fire Rescue. The County of Augusta is centrally located in the historic and scenic Shenandoah Valley at the juncture of I-81 and I-64. The County has a population of 74,881. The community is rural/suburban with a high quality of life. Excellent medical, recreation and public school facilities are available.

The Chief of Fire Rescue directs the County’s combination fire and EMS department in its overall operations of an all-hazard organization to deliver essential emergency and non-emergency services to the community to include fire suppression, fire education and prevention, special operations and EMS services.

The candidate would have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Services, or related field and command-level experience managing multiple company operations in a combination system. The preferred candidate would have a Master’s degree in Fire Science, Emergency Services, or related field and leadership certifications that indicate professional achievement such as National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer, Center of Public Safety Excellence Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Incident Command System (ICS) 400, Fire Officer IV and Instructor III. County residency is required within 6 months of employment. Salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications. Benefits are excellent.
