The County of Augusta has an opening for a Grounds & Facilities Maintenance Worker. This position is assigned to the Facilities Management Department. This full time staff position will be tasked with essential grounds keeping, general facility repairs, and custodial services for the county’s parks and public facilities. Their responsibilities will be critical in preparing parks, recreational facilities, and County owned property for use by the public.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Applicant must have the ability to:
-follow oral and written directions.
-Abide by and enforce established safety rules and regulations.
-complete assigned tasks efficiently and timely.
-perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
-establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials and the general public.

Applicant should have a general knowledge of facility maintenance and grounds keeping, including basic carpentry, electrical, masonry, mechanical, plumbing, and operation of motorized equipment and power tools. Applicant should be able to provide examples of self-motivation and the ability to prioritize.

Applicants must have a valid VA driver’s license.

Education & Experience:
A High School diploma or GED is required. Experience as a semi- skilled worker in facility maintenance, grounds keeping, and/or custodial services is preferred.

This position is a full-time position with an excellent fringe benefit package including VRS retirement and life insurance, health insurance, and PTO leave programs. Hiring salary is $33,421 annually. The work schedule is typically weekday hours 7am – 3:30pm, with an obligation to provide standby/24 hour on-call duty coverage periodically based on a rotating schedule. In the period of April 1 through October 31, this position is expected to work one weekend a month.

Candidate will have to go through a criminal background check and drug screening. DMV driving record will be requested at time of employment.
