Reminder: Vaccinate Your Pet Against Rabies
Rabies Awareness Week is September 23-29.
For Virginia Rabies Awareness Week (September 23-29), the Augusta County Animal Control Department along with the Staunton-Augusta Department of Health are reminding area residents to inoculate their dogs, cats, and other pets four months of age and older.
Rabies is caused by a virus that spreads mainly though bites, scratches, or tissue from an infected animal and can be deadly if not treated before symptoms begin. For your own safety as well as that of your pet, please visit your veterinarian regularly and keep up-to-date on vaccinations. Proof of vaccination is part of the licensing requirements and follows the County Code and State Law.
If you or your pet is attacked or bitten by a wild or domestic animal whose vaccination status is not known, contact Augusta County Animal Control, (540) 245-5635 and the Staunton-Augusta Department of Health, (540) 332-7830.
