Finance Department receives GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The Finance Department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, an achievement and reflection of commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
The County of Augusta Finance Department has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
The award represents a significant achievement and reflects the commitment of the finance department to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The County's budget presentation met nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications piece, and was rated ''proficient" in all four categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
Misty Cook, director of the Finance Department, stated, "The work of finance department staff, as well as that of employees throughout all offices, is a reflection of the County's commitment to present the budget in a way that ultimately makes sense to our citizens. We want everyone to be able to gain a clear understanding of how the County's budget works, where the major initiatives and expenditures are, and the financial details, if someone wants to drill down to that level."
There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. According to GFOA's press release on January 2, 2020, notifying the County of the award, "Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America."
