Valley Libraries Closed Presidents' Day for Server Migration
Online services will be unavailable from 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15 through Monday, Feb. 17. The library will be physically open on Saturday, February 15.
Augusta County libraries, along with libraries in the Valley Libraries System in Staunton and Waynesboro, will experience disruptions to online services over Presidents’ Day Weekend from 5 p.m., Saturday, February 15 through Monday, February 17, due to a server migration and software upgrade. Augusta County and Staunton and Waynesboro city libraries will resume normal schedules and online availability on Tuesday, February 18. Augusta County Library will be open during normal hours on Saturday, February 15 (see individual branch hours).
During the migration process, patrons will be unable to access the library catalog at www.valleylibraries.org and online services and applications, such as Overdrive and hoopla, will experience intermittent disruption during this time.
Diantha McCauley, Augusta County Library director, said, “Though we hate to inconvenience patrons with the online disruption, the new server should make for an improved experience for everyone, providing more reliability and faster operations of website functions and library apps. It should also make it more effective in the long run for the library system to operate.”The process will update and migrate library records to a new database, upgrade existing software, and install new software.
