Public Hearing for Board of Supervisors

The Augusta County Board of Supervisors will conduct a Public Hearing at the 7 p.m. meeting, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in the Board Meeting Room, Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona, Virginia.

The Augusta County Board of Supervisors will conduct a Public Hearing during the regular meeting on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 7 p.m., in the Board Meeting Room, Augusta County Government Center, 18 Government Center Lane, Verona, Virginia, to consider amendments to Article II of Chapter 2 of the Code of the County of Augusta (“Augusta County Code”) as further described below:

  • Augusta County Code § 2-13 B is amended to add Director of Emergency Management and forming a combined system.
  • Augusta County Code § 2-13 E is amended to expand responsibilities of the Augusta County Emergency Services Officers Association.
  • Augusta County Code § 2-13 E is amended to adopt policies and procedures governing the operations of its represented organizations consistent with applicable state and county laws and policies and subject to the approval of the Chief of Fire Rescue.
  • Augusta County Code § 2-13 F is added on open burning ban. When it is deemed necessary by the Fire-Rescue Department, at any time, due to drought or other conditions that create an imminent or extraordinary fire hazard, including a threat to life or property, or a public nuisance as provided in the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, 307.1.1, the Chief of Fire-Rescue, in consultation with the County Administrator, may issue a declaration that open burning or fires are prohibited in part or all of the County. Following such a declaration, it shall be unlawful for any person to burn brush, grass, leaves, trash, debris, or any other flammable material, or to ignite or maintain any open fire, within the County or within any part of the County subjected to prohibition. The declaration shall remain in effect until the Fire-Rescue Chief issues a declaration that such condition no longer exists and the prohibition is terminated.
