Dog License One-Year Renewals Due January 31

Renewals for Augusta County one-year dog tags are due every year on January 31.
Post Date:01/24/2025 3:17 PM

Renewals for existing Augusta County one-year dog licenses (dog tags) are due every year on January 31. All dogs four months and older are required to purchase a license within 90 days of receiving the rabies vaccination.

County dog tags are issued on a yearly or a three-year renewal cycle. A three-year license runs concurrent with the rabies certificate.

Costs and Payment Methods

You can pay for your dog tags using the following methods:

  • Purchase your tags online:

    • Visit www.AugustaCountyVA.gov/dogtags and click the button for “Dog Tags Online.”

    • Complete the application, upload a copy of your rabies certificate, and pay online (a 2.7% convenience fee will be applied).

  • Mail a copy of the vaccination certificate, available from your veterinarian, and a check made out to the Augusta County Treasurer’s Office (PO Box 590, Verona, VA  24482).

Dog License Fee Schedule:

1 Year Sexed (Male or Female) – $10

3 Year Sexed (Male or Female)* – $25

1 Year Spayed or Neutered – $6

3 Year Spayed or Neutered – $15

*A three-year tag is ONLY issued if the rabies vaccination is valid for 3 years.

Dog tags are permanent licenses, meaning the numbered tag that you are issued at the time of purchase will be the one you keep every year unless it is lost, stolen, or destroyed. You will be paying to renew that numbered tag, so it is important to keep your original tag and receipts for each renewal (one year or three year license). A rabies certificate must be on file at the Treasurer’s Office or presented with the dog license application.

If you have a dog and do not not receive a reminder letter and application for it, you should purchase a license for by using the online form or mailing a copy of the rabies certificate (from your veterinarian), along with a check to the Augusta County Treasurer’s Office. Replacement dog licenses are also available if lost, stolen, or destroyed.
