Augusta County has extended the due date for the first half of real estate taxes. Traditionally set for June 5, taxpayers now have until June 18, 2025, to submit their payment without incurring penalties or interest. The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution extending the due date to June 18 at the regular board meeting on May 14, 2025.

By extending the due date, individuals and businesses will have additional time to pay after the bills are issued.

Tax bills have been mailed. Property owners may find an online copy of their tax statement:

  • Go to tax.co.augusta.va.us
    • If you would like to view your bill, click on Real Estate Inquiry and search by Name, Account Number, Parcel Number or Street Name. Please note that if you are searching by name it should be entered as last name then first name. Do not add a comma at the end of the last name. Example: DOE JOHN
    • If you would like to pay your bill online, look under the Payment Options tab and click on Real Estate Tax. Enter an e-mail address (so that a payment receipt can be emailed to you). Then access your bill by using either Name, Account Number, Parcel Number or Dept/Ticket No.

Reminders

  •  When real property is purchased or sold, real estate taxes are generally prorated, but this is a matter to be settled between the purchaser and the former owner. Real estate is assessed in the name of the owner as of January 1 of each year.
  • If you receive a tax bill in the mail that is being escrowed by a mortgage company, please forward the bill to the mortgage company. If the mortgage company is responsible for payment, it is incumbent on the property owner to forward it to the company.
  • The tax bill may not reflect the total delinquent tax amount currently due. You may access your bill/records online at https://tax.co.augusta.va.us under ‘RE Public Inquiry’ or verify by phone at 540-245-5660. Payment plans are available. Call the Treasurer’s office for more information.
  • Taxpayers may be eligible for a real estate exemption if you are 65 or older or permanently disabled and meet financial criteria established by local ordinance. Applications must be made every year by April 1. Questions about the Tax Relief for the Elderly program may be addressed to the Commissioner of the Revenue, 540-245-5647.
