Household Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Day 2025

Saturday, September 20, 2025 – 8:30 am-noon, Waynesboro Facilities Shop

Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro residents are invited to bring household hazardous waste materials to the Waynesboro facilities shop for safe disposal on Saturday, September 20 from 8:30 a.m. until noon for the annual Household Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Day.

Residents of Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro are invited to bring household hazardous waste materials to the City of Waynesboro facilities shop (900 Essex Ave, Waynesboro, 22980) for proper disposal and recycling on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, for the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day. 

The following products will be accepted on Household Hazardous Waste Day:

CFL & fluorescent bulbs Gasoline  Polyurethane
Solvents:  acidic and basic
Herbicides & pesticides
Batteries (NiCad, NimH, Lithium, & Lithium Ion
Oil-based paints & stains  Propane tanks  Mercury devices 

 

The landfill will accept used oil, antifreeze, dried latex paint, and lead acid batteries any time of year. Latex or water-based paints may be disposed of through normal household waste disposal when dried to a solid state. Latex paint is not hazardous. You can find the full list of what is accepted and how to dispose of it at https://www.augustawater.com/disposalguide.

The following products will NOT be accepted:

  • Hazardous materials from businesses [This event is for households only, per EPA and DEQ regulations.]

  • Unknown or unlabeled containers 

  • Electronics, televisions, water-based paint, household batteries, vehicle tires – these items can be disposed of at the Augusta Regional Landfill.

  • Medications will not be accepted – please see the medical disposal page on our website for more information. 

The following items can be recycled for free at the landfill.

Hydraulic oil  Lamp oil  Transmission fluid   

 

The following items can be disposed of at the landfill for a fee.

Car tires off rim  $4.00 each 
Car tires on rim  $6.00 each 
Commercial vehicle tires  $12.00 each 
Freon Bearing Appliances  $12.00 each 
Mulch  $20.00/ton 
Off road/heavy equipment tires  $215.00/ton 
Commercial yard waste  $35.00/ton 
Commercial & Industrial waste  $52.00/ton

Augusta County’s environmental management office, in collaboration with the Augusta County Regional Landfill, typically hold two household waste clean-up days per year, one in the fall for hazardous materials and another in the spring for large items (such as tires and refrigerators).  Learn more about the event and hazardous materials disposal on our website.
