The Augusta Regional Landfill will be implementing an increase in tipping fees effective July 1, 2026. This adjustment is necessary to address rising operational costs and to ensure continued compliance with regulatory requirements.

Reasons for the Increase

Infrastructure Upgrades: Significant portions of the waste unit have matured, necessitating the installation of new gas collection and control systems to maintain regulatory compliance. These systems involve substantial operational and maintenance costs, including extensive documentation and reporting requirements.

Increased Operational Costs: There have been dramatic increases in the cost of products and services, notably in labor, fuel, and equipment maintenance. Similarly, the labor rate for field service technicians has increased over the past five years.

Freon Removal Costs: The Augusta Regional Landfill currently incurs a cost to remove freon prior to recycling these products. Even if the unit has already had its freon removed or freon has been evacuated due to damage, the Augusta Regional Landfill must still confirm that no freon is present prior to disposal. Residents can dispose of two (2) freon bearing appliances free of charge during the annual spring Augusta County Clean-up event.

Wood Waste Processing: The cost to process wood waste has increased and the landfill's processing costs significantly outweigh the revenue generated from tipping fees for this material.

Tire Disposal: Because tires cannot be placed in the landfill and must be hauled to a tire recycling facility, the cost of disposal is closely tied to transportation costs. Transportation costs have increased significantly over the past few years. Residents can dispose of six (6) car/light truck tires free of charge during the annual Augusta County Clean-up event.
Fees last increased in July 2024.
