CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES Position # 00324 (Verona office) Salary: $36,517
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and implements service plans for children and caretakers in need of service. Interprets local department programs and policies to other agencies. Investigates cases of suspected abuse and neglect. Prepares and maintains all records related to child abuse and neglect. Participates in court proceedings and coordinates the activities with the judge and staff of the court. Ensures that the local department has staff on duty at all times (24 hours, 7 days a week) to respond to reports of abuse and neglect
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of social work theories, standards and practices; thorough knowledge of child abuse and neglect programs, policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of intervention and treatment techniques; ability to identify social problems and needs and to recognize irrational and dangerous behavior; ability to apply crisis intervention methods, counseling techniques and support services to clients; ability to understand and interpret laws, policies and regulations; ability to make and act upon decisions, sometimes with limited information in a difficult and/or crises situation; ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with clients, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies and the general public; ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, psychology or related field and considerable experience in social work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION: Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable background checks are required. Bi-lingual skills helpful.
