REASSESSMENT

The Code of Virginia mandates that a general reassessment be conducted by the County at least every six years.  Reassessment is the process by which the assessed value of real estate property held by citizens, businesses, and industries within the County boundaries is revised to reflect fair market value. Adjustments in value are necessary to reflect the current real estate market in order to more equitably distribute the tax burden among the citizens of Augusta County.  The last (and now current) reassessment was effective January 1, 2014.  The next reassessment will be effective January 1, 2019.

The County contracted with the mass appraisal firm Pearson Appraisal Services, Inc to perform the 2019 reassessment. The firm has complete autonomy in determining fair market values.  The Reassessment Office mailed the “Notice of 2019 Real Estate Reassessment” on September 28, 2018.

Pearson has completed informal hearings on the reassessment.  If you would like to schedule a hearing, it will be with the Board of Equalization, which will be appointed by the Circuit Court in January.  Please contact us again in January by calling 245-5630.
