The Code of Virginia mandates that a general reassessment be conducted by the County at least every six years. Reassessment is the process by which the assessed value of real estate property held by citizens, businesses, and industries within the County boundaries is revised to reflect fair market value. Adjustments in value are necessary to reflect the current real estate market in order to more equitably distribute the tax burden among the citizens of Augusta County. The reassessment was effective January 1, 2019.
The Board of Equalization for Augusta County will meet on the days listed below for the purpose of hearing complaints of inequalities including errors in acreage. Upon hearing such complaints, either oral or written, the Board will give consideration AND INCREASE, DECREASE OR AFFIRM such real estate assessments. Before a change can be granted, the taxpayer or his agent must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the assessment. The taxpayer or his agent must provide a preponderance of the evidence that the assessment of the property is not uniform with the assessments of other similar properties or that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value.
Appointments will be scheduled approximately every 15 minutes to minimize waiting. To appear before the Board of Equalization, please call (540)-245-5630. Meetings of the Board to hear objections will be held at the AUGUSTA COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER, VERONA. The dates and times are:

May 29 8 a.m.-5 p.m. June 26 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
July 25 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
Meetings held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will break for lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
All applications to the Board of Equalization for adjustments to assessments must be received by the Board no later than June 1, 2019. The Board of Equalization shall dispose of all applications for adjustments to assessments no later than July 31, 2019.
