Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors used by one individual intended to exert power and control over another individual in an intimate relationship. It includes not only hitting and pushing, but includes sexual, psychological or emotional abuse as well.
Even if you have no physical injuries, you may still be a victim. Domestic violence does not discriminate – it affects people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
You are not alone! Talking with someone is the first and most crucial step in getting the help you deserve. There are people in your community willing and able to help you.
The Augusta County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is here to help and will do all that we can to make sure you get the support you need.
