Office of the Fire Rescue Chief
Chief Dave Nichols began his career as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician outside of his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware in 1985. He has worked as a career Firefighter, Paramedic, and Fire Officer for over thirty years. Chief Nichols worked in Virginia as the Fire Marshal in Dinwiddie County and the Director of Public Safety in Bedford County, as well as the Chief of Fire & Emergency Services in York County, PA. Prior to joining Augusta County, Dave worked as the Program Manager of Industrial Rescue Programs for a nationally recognized environmental response and management company.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and a Master of Science in Executive Leadership & Disaster Management from Grand Canyon University. Dave is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy and is certified as a Firefighter, Fire Instructor, and Fire Officer by the Pro Board® Fire Service Professional Qualifications System.
Chief Nichols is also a member of the Adjunct Faculty at the Harrisburg Area Community College – Shuemaker Public Safety Center in Pennsylvania. Dave is an accomplished instructor with specialization in fire suppression techniques, technical rescue, and incident command. He is a charter member of the Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) system and the Southcentral (PA) Incident Management Team (www.sctfpa.org).
Chief Nichols and his family have been coming to the Shenandoah Valley for over 25 years to vacation and enjoy the beauty of the region. Dave and his wife Denise live in the Fishersville area of Augusta County along with their daughter Samantha and son David (DJ).
