Below are common services that can be completed from your own home.

Payment of Taxes - mail, drop-box, drive-through, online

The first half of real estate taxes are due on June 26. Penalty is set at 0% and the interest rate at 5% until August 31, 2020.  See FAQs on the real estate tax page

Check or money orders can be made payable to County of Augusta and mailed to P.O. Box 590, Verona, VA 24482 or dropped off at the drive-through or drop-box.  Taxes can also be paid online by e-check or credit card

Business License  -  mail, email, call 540-245-5651

For a new business license - 

  1. Obtain a zoning certificate for the location of your business by calling 540-245-5700.
  2. If you are using a trade name, you must register the name with the State Corporation Commission at

For a renewed business license - mail in the renewal form to Commissioner of the Revenue P.O. Box 959, Verona, Virginia 24482.

Personal Property Statements - email, mail or drop-box

  1. Return by mail. Commissioner of the Revenue P.O. Box 959, Verona, Virginia 24482
  2. Use the drop box located outside the Government Center, follow signs for 'drive through.'
  3. File by email. Make any necessary corrections, sign, date, and scan the document or take a picture of the document and send the attachment to

Dog-related - mail, drive-through, drop-box

Dog tags:  Mail / drop-box your rabies certificate for your dog tags along with a check: Augusta County Treasurer's Office, PO Box 590, Verona, VA 24482.

ONE YEAR; (January - December):  Unsexed (spayed or neutered) dogs: $6.00  |  Sexed Male or Female dogs: $10.00

THREE YEARS; (Runs concurrent with rabies certificate): Unsexed (spayed or neutered) dogs: $15.00  |  Sexed Male or Female dogs: $25.00

Animal being held at shelter: Use the drive-through to pay fines to release your dog from the shelter. The shelter has new protocol they are following; see Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center before you go.

Announcements : 

Reopening of Government Center   

The Government Center reopened to the public on June 1 and is now in Phase 2 of the Re-opening Plan.  Read about the latest plans for reopening and safety protocols in place. 

Parks & Rec Updates 

See the Parks & Rec page for more information.

Some specific amenities within the parks will be reopened starting Friday, June 19, including:

  • Playgrounds
  • Picnic shelters/pavilions will be available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis with no reservations being taken and no fees collected. User group size should not exceed the capacity of the shelter or 50 persons, whichever is less.
  • Basketball courts and ballfields will be available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis with no reservations being taken and no fees collected. User group size (participants and spectators) should not exceed 50 persons.
  • Public restrooms will remain closed at all parks. There will be no access to restrooms and water fountains. Bring hand sanitizer or wipes for personal use as well as water bottles.
  • Additional guidelines and recommendations will be posted at each amenity.  Please take the time to review those and do your part to help ensure that we are able to keep these amenities and our parks accessible.

Posted announcements from June 1: 

  • All scheduled special events through August are cancelled.  This includes the annual Sweet Dreams Day at Stuarts Draft Park, Food Truck Wednesdays and Dog Days. 
  • All summer camp programs have been cancelled.  This includes KIDS Camp and RecConnect.
  • The swimming pool at Stuarts Draft Park will not open for the 2020 season.  Swim lessons and the Stuarts Draft Dolphins swim team will not be offered.
  • The campground and swimming pool at Natural Chimneys Park remain closed and an update on their availability will be provided by June 15. The Red Wing Roots Music Festival will be postponed until July 9-11, 2021.
  • All registrations and reservations continue to be suspended until further notice.
  • All parks and trails are open to the public. Picnic shelters, pavilions, restrooms, and playgrounds in county parks and on county school properties remain closed indefinitely.  A status update will be provided by June 15.

Department of Social Services

Landfill and Dumpster Sites   

The Augusta Regional Landfill is open under normal hours of operation.

Augusta County Library Virtual Services

Fire-Rescue Asks for Donations of Medical Masks

Medical/surgical masks, protective gowns, and other emergency supplies are in short supply. See how you can help with donations of supplies or sewing fabric masks.  

Sheriff's Office Temporary Procedures

The lobby to the Augusta County Sheriff's Office is closed to the public. Only those wishing to speak to the magistrate will be allowed in the lobby, not to exceed two people at one time. If the lobby is at capacity, you will be asked to wait outside, in your vehicle, or return at a later time. Refer to the Sheriff's Office website for additional information.
