Personal Property Tax (PPT) returns are due May 1, 2026.

Individuals and businesses that owned tangible personal property located in Augusta County as of January 1, 2026, should receive a statement in the mail. Return the verified or corrected statement on or before May 1.

High Mileage Tax Adjustment Program

If your vehicle has higher than average mileage, you could save on taxes! All applications must be completed by May 1, 2026.

Submit documentation with your personal property filing return.
Have your vehicle visually inspected at the Verona Government Center Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at one of the events listed below:
- Fishersville Main Library
  - Tuesday, April 28, 6-8pm
  - Thursday, April 30, 6-8pm

Personal Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans

Veterans Tax Exemption

The Constitution of Virginia [Article X, Section 6(a)(8)] and Virginia Code §58.1-3668 were amended effective January 1, 2021, to establish an exemption from local property taxes for one (1) vehicle used by or for a 100% service-connected, totally and permanently disabled veteran.

Current Personal Property Tax Rate

The current rate for personal property tax is 2.60 per $100 for auto, motorcycle, campers, boats and trailers and 2.00 per $100 of value for business property.

FAQs

How is personal property assessed?

The Commissioner of the Revenue is required by law to assess vehicles by means of a recognized pricing guide. The pricing guide utilized by Augusta County is the National Automobile Dealers Association pricing guide.

I’m new to the County. What do I need to do?

If you move to the County, contact the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to make sure that your records there are up to date. You should register and title your vehicle with DMV within 30 days of your move if you are coming from out of state.
If I move to a new home in Augusta County or another Virginia locality, what do I need to do?

Contact DMV and update your records, making sure your information is current. Questions about address changes can be directed to the Commissioner of Revenue’s office, 540-245-5640 or comrev@co.augusta.va.us.
If I sell my mobile home, what do I need to do?

When selling your manufactured/mobile home, we encourage you to assist the buyer in going to a DMV office and making sure the mobile home is retitled to the new owner. We use this DMV title information to relieve you of tax liability as of the date of sale.
